Training
Training takes place in the Crewe Gym. Training times are Monday 5pm-7pm, Wednesday 2pm-4pm and on Friday the competative boxers travel to Crewe ABC and spar there for about an hour.
Training sessions in the boxing club are always varied and different to avoid them becoming repetative. Sparring at the club is completely optional, however if you want to then you can. Although sessions are always different and new, a typical training session at the boxing club goes as follows:
- 20 minute initial warm up, including light jogging, skipping, short sprints, some sort of game and stretching.
- 10-15 minutes of general techniques;
- followed by 1hr+ of progressive techniques and combos:
We are shown a skill and then apply it. When we perform these new skills, we get into pairs and take turns to punch each others gloves in a static position, holding your gloves in a certain way to avoid injury. Then over the hour the skill is then adapted e.g.:
- we learn a body shot
- we then learn a body shot with a left hook
- we then learn a body shot with a hook and cross (backhand)
- we then move around slightly doing the same drill to make it sport specific
The training session is then rounded off with circuit training, usually taken by Lee (fitness coach), this takes us to the end of the session and can be up to 1hr long.
