Welcome to the Sci-Fi Society!

MMU's Sci-Fi society holds meetings weekly. We normally meet in The Pub at 7:30 every Monday (it's actually called The Pub, see below), stop there for a couple of drinks and then move on to somewhere else. At first we will go to the Fab Café, a science fiction themed bar on Portland Street which has a lot of sci-fi collectables to look at, a Dalek and a mystery starship! This year we will endeavour to hold at least a couple of meetings each term down in Rusholme or Fallowfield, to try to cater for students who live down there.

We see a few films each term and this year we will maintain a good relationship with Film Society We will aim to make cinema trips FREE. However, members may be asked to pay a small subsidy (probably 50p) if budgeting requires it. The films that we see are normally sci-fi, but we've ventured into fantasy, horror and we'll even see a comedy if people want to see it. The Star Trek film is likely to be our biggest hit this year! We also go to Collectormania, which is a convention sort of things with stalls selling anything film or TV related, held in the GMEX (or whatever it's called nowadays). This will be FREE or very heavily susidised by the SU, so almost free!

Sci-Fi Society has a group on Facebook, which you can find by searching for MMU Sci-Fi Society under groups; however, it's best to check here for up-to-date information on the group's activities. If you're having problems finding the Facebook group, join the Manchester or Manchester Metropolitan University network first.

The objects of the Society shall be:
- to facilitate an interest in the science fiction genre
- to see sci-fi and fantasy films
- to attend conventions and sci-fi events
- to drink responsibly and have good fun
- to assimilate others into our collective and to boldly go where no society has gone before!

Joining the Society

It costs £3 to join Sci-Fi, which is the minimum we can charge. We'll be at the freshers fair (Sugden Sports Centre) during freshers week and you can join there, or just come along to The Pub (see below). If you have not paid to join Sci-Fi, your cinema/other trips with us will not be paid for by the Society.

Whether you're interested in Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who/Torchwood, Firefly, Red Dwarf, Terry Pratchett or more into your fantasy like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, or if you just want to meet some new people, have a drink and see some films for free, come along to Sci-Fi Society.
