Student Officer: President

MMUnion’s President is the lead officer at MMUnion, who co-ordinates and champions our work to make MMU better for students. The President leads MMUnion’s officers and staff in delivering an organisation that really makes a difference to students’ lives. They are the chief representative of students at MMU and they lead our public image. They are also a governor at the university able to influence decisions at the top for you.

MMUnion’s Vice President (Cheshire) co-ordinates our work to make the student experience better at MMU Cheshire. They lead for issues that affect students specifically at MMU Cheshire. The Vice President (Cheshire) represents students’ concerns in education, community, welfare and all other aspects of their experience, working in partnership with other appropriate officers. The Vice President (Education) leads on all things related to the quality of teaching, learning and research at MMU; it’s their job to talk to students about how well MMU is helping them to do well. They lead the Course Rep system and make sure that we always know what students want in their education. They decide what the most important issues in education are and campaign to improve them.

MMUnion’s Vice President (Community) leads our efforts to make students active citizens who participate in, and shape their communities. The Vice President (Community) is the face of MMU students for the local community, local councils and national government. They will work with many other organisations to help students be active and get involved in their communities.

MMUnion’s Vice President (Student Activities Cheshire) co-ordinates our work to make the student experience about fun and development in MMU Cheshire. They lead the development and organisation of activities for MMUnion. They decide the direction of our student activities work and promote the value of participation in diverse development activities across the student community and to the university.

MMUnion’s Vice President (Student Activities Manchester) co-ordinates our work to make the student experience about fun and development, at MMU in Manchester. They lead the development and organisation of activities for MMUnion. They decide the direction of our student activities work and promote the value of participation in diverse development activities across the student community and to the university.

Rep: Cheshire (2 places)

You may run for the position of Rep without portfolio (Cheshire) if you are a student studying at the Cheshire Campus. The voluntary role of Rep without portfolio (Cheshire) includes supporting the work of the two Cheshire Officers.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • helping to address and promote matters relating to Cheshire Students across campus to the University and MMUnion
  • maintaining an awareness of issues and events in the wider community that relate to MMU Cheshire students
  • dealing with the welfare of their Cheshire Students, coordinating issue based campaigns, and representing the needs of those students to the University
  • maintaining an awareness of wider issues affecting students locally and nationally
  • ensuring that all the work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: Community (3 places)

The voluntary role of Community Rep will be assigned a distinct area to prioritise, but when necessary may work with neighbouring community Reps. There are three positions available.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • supporting MMUnion and other community groups on ongoing campaigns and initiatives such as police and city council campaigns and initiatives.
  • developing good relationship with members of the community and attending community/residents’ groups in the local area encouraging students to get involved in their local communities
  • attending regular meetings with regards to students in their communities
  • helping to develop ideas for new events or projects, recruit volunteers and raise funds (with support) were necessary.
  • ensuring that all the work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: Black (BME)

You may run for the position of Black and Minority Ethnicity students’ rep if you self-define as a black and/or minority ethnicity student. The voluntary role of BME Students’ Rep will include representing ethnic minority groups within MMUnion, the University and the wider community.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • supporting the promotion of race issues
  • encouraging the involvement of ethnic minority groups in MMUnion.
  • co-ordinating the work of MMUnion on all matters relevant to ethnic minority students.
  • supporting events, campaigns and activities organised under the banner of BME groups
  • collecting and distributing information and literature in line with the work of MMUnion in general and BME groups in particular.
  • liaising with local community groups and other organisations in line with the BME Students Rep’s areas of responsibility.
  • ensuring that all work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: Disabilities

You may run for the position of disabilities rep if you self define as a disabled student. The voluntary role of Disabilities Rep includes the representation of disabled students within MMUnion , the University and in the wider community.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • supporting the promotion of disability issues
  • encouraging the involvement of disabled students in MMUnion
  • co-ordinating the work of MMUnion on all matters relevant to disabled students.
  • supporting events, campaigns and activities organised under the banner of disabled students
  • collecting, producing and distributing information and literature in line with the work of MMUnion in general and disabled students.
  • implementing polices as decided by the democratic structures of the Union.
  • liaising with local community groups and other organisations relevant to the Disabilities Rep’s areas of responsibility.
  • ensuring that all the work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: Environment

The voluntary role of Environment Rep is includes responsibility for supporting the promotion of environmental issues within MMUnion , the University and in the wider community.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • Co-ordinating the work of MMUnion on all matters relevant to environmental issues.
  • Supporting events, campaigns and activities organised under the banner of the Environment.
  • Collecting, producing and distributing information and literature in line with the work of MMUnion in general and the Environment.
  • incorporating Environmental issues within the work of MMUnion
  • implementing policies as decided by the democratic structures of the Union
  • Liaising with local community groups and other organisations in line with the Environment Rep’s areas of responsibility.
  • Ensuring that all the work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: International and EU

You may run for the position of the International and EU Rep if you are a non-UK student. The voluntary role of International and EU Rep will include the representation of international students within MMUnion, the University and in the wider community.

Other aspects of the role will include:

  • supporting the promotion of international and EU student issues
  • encouraging the involvement of international and EU students in MMUnion.
  • co-ordinating the work of MMUnion on all matters relevant to international and EU students.
  • supporting events, campaigns and activities organised under the banner of international and EU students.
  • supporting the collection, production and distribution of information and literature in line with the work of MMUnion in general and international and EU students
  • liaising with local community groups and other organisations in line with the International and EU Rep’s areas of responsibility.
  • ensuring that all the work is carried out in line with the MMUnion Constitution and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Rep: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender

You may run for the position of LGBT rep if you self define as an LGBT student. The voluntary role of LGBT Rep includes the representation of LGBT students within MMUnion, the University and the wider community.

  • co-ordinating the work of MMUnion on all matters relevant to LGBT students.

You may run for the position of Mature and Postgraduate students’ rep if you are a mature and/or postgraduate student. To the voluntary role of Mature and Postgraduate Students Rep includes the representation of mature and Postgraduate students within MMUnion, the University and in the wider community.

  • supporting the promotion of mature and postgraduate students’ issues
  • encouraging the involvement of mature and postgraduate students in MMUnion

Rep: Women's

You may run for the position of women’s rep if you self-define as a woman student. The voluntary role of Women’s Rep will include representing the views of women students within MMUnion, the University and in the wider community.
