About

iCYCLE MANCHESTER is now up and running. This cycling project is set up as a bike rental business within the Students Union building on Oxford Rd. The project will be student led with a major focus on providing low cost sustainable Bike Hire to Students, Staff and Members of the public.

 

How much will it cost?

You will also need to pay a refundable deposit of £50 for a new bike and £25 for a used one. You will need to sign a hire agreement and you will be expected to look after the bike, ensuring it is kept in good condition.

 

Who can participate?

All students, staff and members of the public can hire a bike, no matter whether new or existing, undergraduate or postgraduate, full-time or part-time, Home, EU or International. Bikes are hired out on a first-come first-served basis.

 

How does the scheme work?

iCYCLE MANCHESTER are launching the Student Bike Hire Scheme in June 2011 from the ground floor of MMU Students Union. Quality bikes are available for hire from one week up to the total of the academic year. All bikes are ready to ride, and come complete with lights, lock, and a full year long maintenance package. You will also receive a 10% discount voucher to use at Cycles Recycled to purchase bikes and accessories, access to a free maintenance class run by iCYCLE MANCHESTER, free beginner/refresher cycle training, plus support from the iCYCLE MANCHESTER team.

Volunteer opportunities with icycle

 
 

I-Cycle volunteer cycle mechanic

 

Role description:

Help a qualified CYTEX cycle mechanic recycle reclaimed cycles. To enable them to be fit for purpose to be used for the I-cycle hire fleet. Taking parts off cycles and replacing them with new parts.

Hours:

2hrs per week on a Tuesday between 12 noon -7 pm

What you get out of it:

Learn new cycle mechanic skills and how to maintain your own cycle. Valuable experience to add to your CV.

No previous cycle mechanic training required. Basic cycle maintenance skills will be provided by a qualified CYTEX cycle mechanic.

I-Cycle volunteer for marketing and social media

Role description:

Help to raise the profile of the iCycle project which recycles reclaimed cycles to be used on the University’s cycle hire fleet operated out of the Student Union. The project needs greater exposure to the public, staff and students particularly through the development and management of social media i.e. facebook and twitter. Working with the SU marketing team you will help to develop and maintain facebook and twitter accounts for the iCYCLE project and develop other innovative marketing projects/initiatives.

Hours:

2-5 hrs per week flexible on the days support is provided. Daily update of twitter and facebook pages.

What you get out of it:

Practical experience of working on the marketing of a social enterprise project.

Social media and  some marketing/design experience would be desirable but social media training will be provided.
