STATEMENT
The University has determined the need to take action to reduce operational costs and to comply with HEFCE carbon reduction targets supporting the UK Strategy for Climate & Energy.
As a result, the decision has been taken that activities, which take place outside of core hours should be located in fewer buildings. This will facilitate, through more targeted operations, the delivery of service improvements whilst supporting MMU’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
Other campus buildings will close earlier than is currently the case, typically half past six on Monday to Thursday evenings and five-thirty on Fridays. Campuses will, in the main, be closed at weekends, however libraries will maintain their current opening hours.
It is not anticipated that teaching activities will be affected directly, other than, in some cases, requiring a change of location. Coursework submission arrangements will remain unaffected by these proposals, although the situation will remain under review.
Students for whom emergency evacuation plans have been prepared and who believe that they are affected by these changes should, in the first instance, contact the member of staff with whom they originally drew up the plans to discuss any consequential issues.
Where courses are affected, amended timetables will be published shortly; they will take effect in January from the start of the Spring term. Further details regarding the closure arrangements for individual buildings can be accessed via the Student and Academic Services web-site at
