Student Loan Update

Following recent press coverage, many UK students will be concerned about their loan payments from Student Finance England. MMUnion's advice to students is not to panic as there is help and support available at MMU.

Although many students will be experiencing delays right now, this has happened to a lesser extent in previous years and we are all prepared and able to help.

If you've applied for a tuition fee loan, this will be paid directly to the university on your behalf by the Student Loan Company.  You don't need to worry about paying your fees up front.

If you've met all of the deadlines for your loan application, then the non-means tested part of your loan will be available within a few days of completing your enrolment at MMU.  If you'll still be living in your family home then this will be £2,763.  If you're moving away from home this will be £3,564.

If you didn't meet the deadlines or you came through clearing, then your loan won't be ready for you at the start of term - but don't panic!  MMU offers financial support to first year students.

You can find out more about the Emergency Hardship Loan on the MMU website (http://www.mmu.ac.uk/studentfinance/ehl.php.

MMU has agreed that first installment of accommodation fees can be deferred until loan payments are received by students.

MMUnion Advice Centre can provide independent professional advice on any financial concerns you have.  If you want to speak to our Advisors you can find out more and how to contact them on the Advice Centre section of our website.
