Zero Waste Project June 2009

The biggest recycling initiative of its kind in greater Manchester, Zero Waste is an exciting inter-faculty recycling project co-ordinated and run by students, your environmental team and service managers.  Zero Waste has now become a national campaign and MMU is leading the way.

Zero Waste starts mid May till July 2009

The point of Zero Waste is to recycle as much stuff as possible, reducing our waste to landfill and help change the way we think about the everyday things we throw away.  Much of what we perceive as rubbish still can be reused or recycled and put to good use.

Many charities are participating in the project such as; Oxfam, Mustard Tree, Wesley Centre furniture, Manchester Enterprise, Manchester City Council and student volunteers from People and Planet.

You will be given a green bag with a flier with all the information of recyclable preferables and recyling and collection points in your halls of residence.  In these green bags we are asking you to put: shoes, trainers, clothes, blankets and sheets, as clean as possible please. Oxfam have provided green recycling banks at specified campuses for them to be taken to.

You will also be given given collections boxes to put all your:  Electrical items, Pots and Pans, Crockery and Food items in.  These are to be left in the reception point of your hall.

We're even recycling bikes, music and books.

Volunteers will coming from the 1st June to your campus to help with anything you need and generally help make the event fun and cheerful.

So remember, this is national event headed by MMU aiming to help us students understand the benefits of recycling and reduce our waste to landfill.  It's going to be lots of fun and involves every student who lives in our halls.

Get involved and be the change.
