The story so far:
One of the universities smallest team but don’t let size fool you! Women’s Basketball has been one of the universities most successful teams over the years, playing in the BUSA Northern Premier Division against Northumbria, Loughborough and Leeds Metropolitan. The 2007-2008 season saw the team reach its highest position in the table, coming second overall (only losing to Northumbria), and with two teams, had plenty of players to choose from. However, last season was more of a challenge as we had to start from scratch! Women’s Basketball continued in the BUCS Northern Premier Division with a squad of 7 players, playing teams with squads upwards of 10, fighting hard to keep a place in the top flight. Unfortunately relegation loomed, but the girls should be proud, only narrowly missing out on the BUCS Cup Finals and the team played well as such a small unit, never once being dominated in a match and coming so close to winning nearly every game – matches went to extra time and points were very tight.
The season of 09/10 has also been one of the most successful in the whole of the universities team as we had reached the BUCS finals after just loosing out on promotion to the premiere division.
Sadly loosing in the final left us as runners up in second place! But it has been a very successful season with lots of high scoring and even close on edge games!
However the season just passed 2010/2011 we yet again fought hard to make way to the finals once again.. To only take victory on our awesome win!
***2010/2011 BUCS Trophy champions! ****
We now have another season to troop through and we need you guys to help us do that!
We would love to have you on board so come along on fresher’s faire and join up!!! "
