Debating Society

Our first meeting had a great turn out so thanks to all those who turned up. Our next meeting will be at 17:00 in room 2.10 of the Sandra Burslem building on Wednesday (03/11/10). The topic of debate will be "Are we winning the war on terror?".

If you are interested in putting your name forward for one of the three committee positions please email us with a 200 word summary of who you are and why you would be good for the role you are applying for. Please do so no later than 26/10/10. Your summaries will then be sent to all members.

About each role:

Chair - there are two chair positions available. To apply you must show that you are objective and fair as well as showing that you can work well in a team. The role of a Chair will be to: Control proceedings by picking members to speak and maintaining order; promote the society; plan any events such as guest speakers, etc as well as choosing a debate winner after each weeks session.

Treasurer - the role of the treasurer will be to manage all money collected via memberships; budget for each weeks refreshments and to fund raise for any event we may wish to plan, e.g a guest speaker or a trip.

The election will take place online via the MMUnion website, so only members will be able to vote. This will open on the 27/10/10 (after the debate).

Memberships are now also available and are £5 for the year.
