What type of person joins your society?

All type of students join up every year, from a variety of courses. We get people familiar with ‘gaming’, those with a passing familiararity (those who have played board games and computer games, or have just heard of it) and those who have no idea about gaming at all but who are curious about it. We don’t discriminate between gender, sexuality, age, race or creed (or anything else you can think of) and ask only that new members follow this basic rule. We are a society of fun loving, easy going types.

When and where do we meet?

The society meets in the MMU Student Union on Tuesday evenings from 6pm and on Sunday afternoons from lunchtime.

What would I get if I did join up?

Vague is three things. First, we are a university society dedicated to gaming. Second, we are a team – every year (around April) we take part in the Student National Roleplay and Wargaming Championships, an event at which we have done consistently well. Thirdly we are friends, who regularly meet up for non-gaming related activities, such as nights out and trips to the cinema. We are a society which sticks together throughout the year – not just in term time, with games having been run at individual’s homes and in various pubs around the city through the summer as well as regular get-together for parties and film nights.

For more info on Roleplaying see our Roleplay Page.

What are the Student Nationals?

The Nationals is a competition between all the university gaming societies in the country, held once a year in April. For a weekend, members of each team compete in various roleplay games, war games, card games and board games. As well as this, there is much socialising between teams, friendly rivalry between teams and an opportunity to meet gamers from across the country.

All members of Vague have the opportunity to join the Nationals team, regardless of their experience at gaming. Our primary goal at this event is to have fun! Winning is good, but we never sacrifice having a good time for it - Vague has a reputation for being the first in the bar and the last out.
