The Stop the War Coalition was formed on September 21st, 2001 at a public meeting of over 2,000 people in London.

It is one of the most effective and successful campaigns in British history--building as it has on the prior endeavours of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), the trades unions, anti-racist campaigners, anti-war Muslim organisations and civil liberties groups.

MMU Stop The War is the Manchester Met affiliate of the Stop the War Coalition.

Aims

The principal aims of MMU Stop The War Society are to campaign over the following issues:

1. Bring the troops home from Afghanistan.

2. Freedom for Palestine.

3. Opposing the racist backlash generated by the "War On Terror".

4. Defending civil liberties.

Activities

In the UK the Stop the War Coalition has organised massive demonstrations against the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan, in conjunction with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the Muslim Association of Britain. MMU Stop the War Society will continue to support and build for future demonstrations.

The Stop the War Coalition is dedicated to ridding the world of predatory wars, racism, Islamophobia and never-ending attacks on our civil liberties. If you agree with our aims and objectives, we urge you to join us. Together, we can make our voice heard.
