We are the second largest sports club in the AU, and on top of this we are a friendly sociable club and provide not only lessons, hacks and road trips but also a hectic social calender with loads of opportunities to meet new people and other AU teams.
Our club lessons are split into four ability groups hence all standards are covered so don't worry if you've never even touched a horse before!
We ride at Ashton Hall Equestrian Centre, a showjumping yard in Ashton-on-Mersey near Sale, and all transport is provided to and from the yard by car from the Union.
New for this year we have had gymkhana games on the little ponies, a dressage competition and a showjumping competition. The club have also been on excursions to watch the B Team compete at various BUCS league matches, and helped out at the A&B Team's home competitions.
This year the club went on an exciting riding holiday to Cimla Equestrian Centre in July 2010 for 20 people. This was a new feature and proved highly sucessful so will be repeating this in July 2011. We had a mixture of lessons and 2 hour forest trecks all while staying in 5 star Bed and Breakfast Accomadation. Ask any of our members who went how much of a good time they had!
Of course the old stalwart of AU Tour to Lloret de Mar continues to be popular even amongst those of us that don't compete (ie, horseriders) and just gives a chance to get obliteratedly drunk!
The teams for the 09/10 season did extremely well, with B Team coming second in their league (narrowly!) and A Team qualifying for regionals and an individual, Sarah Huggard, through to Nationals of which she placed 6th individually, which is a fantastic result! If you are a capable rider and would like to try out for teams next year, trials will be held the last week in September. Make sure you attend freshers fair and sign up and say you wish to try out for teams to receive all the information you need!
The countdown to freshers fair has now begun and we have some exciting things planned for you at freshers fair and durring freshers week, so make sure you look out for us, we'll be hard not to miss!!!
