Think football is just for guys? Think again, at MMU we have a Ladies Gaelic team who are currently All Britain Champions!! Joining our team is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people, get fit and of course, have a laugh

Gaelic football is a team sport which is played

on a rectangular grass pitch with H-shaped goals at each end. The primary object is to score by kicking or striking the ball with the hand and getting it through the goals. The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, soloing (dropping and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands), kicking, and hand-passing to their team-mates

In the academic year 2008/09, this was the first year that Manchester Metropolitan University had a Ladies Gaelic team. We participated every year in the British Universities Championship which is held in Manchester around February.

The MMU team lost in the semi-finals in 2008/09, won the All Britain title in 2009/10 and 2010/11 in the 9&a-side competition. A brilliant day of fun and football was had followed by plenty of celebratory drinks. We hope to build on this next year, keeping the shield here in Manchester

This year as well as improving our skills on the field we plan on exceeding them on the dancefloor. With a new social committee in place get ready for some fun social events to boost team moral (or drinking skills!!!) including a karaoke night, quiz night and plenty more to follow suggestions welcomed.
