We're having a big conversation about induction...

.......and we'd like you to join in

The ‘Big Conversation’ is a new way for MMUnion to talk to students. Basically, it's about tackling the most important issues by getting all of you talking about a specific issue at a specific time.

This is an important part of our campaigning activity because it focuses attention on one big issue at a time.

Last term we kicked off our Big Conversation programme by talking extensively to first years about induction, which is a pressing issue that affects everyone.

What we did

We got a small group of 1st year students to write diaries about life at MMU over the first 6 weeks of term so we could see what it's really like to be a student here, warts and all.

We also ran an online survey, which got a great response with over 1,000 first years completing it. We also did lots of other activities like chatting to you in your halls and conducting group discussions and workshops.

We also got our course reps involved as, in many ways,  they're our eyes and ears on the ground (so to speak).

What are we going to do next?

Armed with all of this information that you've given us, the next step is to look at what it all means and present your views to the university so that they can look at ways of  making induction better next year.

How was induction for you?

We'll keep you posted on our findings and conclusions and make sure you get your chance to see what we present to the university. In the meantime, if you'd like to tell us how induction was for you this year (the good, the bad and the plain ugly) we're all ears.
