If you're on time, why is your class LATE?
In autumn 2008, Course Reps told us that students were suffering because of late and cancelled lectures that were never rearranged - so we organised the ‘Late’ campaign to find out how many students across MMU were finding this to be the case.
The University Student Agreement (the statement that the University agreed would be the principles of an MMU education) says that
“staff will give reasonable notice of changes to the teaching timetable and will arrange for classes to be re-scheduled or for alternative delivery of the content, or will explain why this is not possible”.
We think that this is the best way to test whether that's actually happening and to help identify where there are problem areas.
"this is a variation on traditional course rep activity, collecting information in a way that is easier for modern students. We fully understand that lectures may need to be cancelled and re-arranged for legitimate reasons and believe that it is crucial to establish a means of measuring the impact of cancelled lectures. We have faith that the results will demonstrate the professional approach adopted by the majority of staff" Nicola Lee, President
We've made it easy for you to tell us when your lectures start late or are cancelled without notice by using a simple text message. All you have to do is send us a text with the word ‘LATE’ followed the year and course you're studying, to 81025.
We'll monitor the feedback that we get from you and prepare a weekly report for each Faculty Dean, asking them take any necessary action.
We'll also keep you updated on the results of the campaign.
MMUnion wants to work with all students and staff to make this a successful campaign. We will treat all of the information we receive sensitively. We will never share it with any external organisation or use it commercially.
If you have any questions or want to find out more then contact Gary Hughes, the Student Engagement Co-ordinator on

Look out for our posters around the campus with details and the text number.
