MMUnion has written this report on behalf of students at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) to support the institutional audit by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. This is a welcome opportunity for students to tell the higher education sector more about the experience of learning at MMU.
Inevitably, there may be some feeling that this student written submission tells more stories about what could be improved at MMU; students are much more likely to talk to each other about things they miss or dislike about the management of their education. We hope, however, that our criticism is accurate and fair. It is also true that academic and administrative staff across MMU work hard with students to raise the standard of education and we, in turn, have tried hard to shout about our many successes.
The student written submission is our attempt to comment with some degree of authority on the quality of the learning experience at the time of writing, in summer 2009. We hope that it shapes our work with the University in the future, as we state the student priorities for improving the learning experience.
Many people have contributed to this student written submission and we would like to thank all of the students who spoke to us about their experience, the MMUnion staff who supported the research and drafting of the student written submission and Professor Maureen Wayman and Phillip Lloyd for their experience and encouragement.
We are proud of this report and we hope that it helps auditors, students and the University understand our priorities for investigation and action, where working together makes positive change.
